Virginia Democrats know its Fall when the campaigns start providing yard signs for the local Democratic Committees.  It helps us track this season because Virginia has an election every year.

This year there are three statewide races and a number of state House of Delegates elections.

Terry McAuliffe, long time politico and entrepreneur,  is a candidate for Governor.  Hailing from Northern Virginia (actually he is a Citizen of the World), Terry is a progressive leader, Clinton fundraiser, and an energizing speaker.  He has visionary plans for invigorating the Virginia

job market, protecting women’s rights to health care and protecting the vote.  He strongly favors Obamacare and expansion of Medicare in Virginia.

Running for Lieutenant Governor is Ralph Northam, an MD from the Eastern Shore and a state senator.  Lieutenant Governor is particularly important in Virginia because that office is the tie breaker and proponent of the administration’s legislative agenda in the General Assembly.  The Virginia Senate is evenly split at this point so unless the Democrats take back the Senate decisively next year, the Lieutenant Governor is our only protection against the ultra right agenda in the General Assembly.

Virginia State Senator Mark Herring, from lovely, historic Leesburg , is the candidate for Attorney General.   Mark worked his way up to the state senate after serving on the Loudoun  County Board of Supervisors.  In addition to his law degree, he holds degrees in economics and foreign affairs.

Oh, the Local Democratic Committees will have coördinated campaign signs shortly after Labor Day.  Stay tuned.

Next post will focus on Delegate Rosalyn R. Dance in her uncontested race for the 63rd Virginia House District after a brutal primary.
